SPLASH EVENT - OCTOBER 25 -

I wanted to clear a couple of things up regarding SPLASH this weekend. High School is having two events; one is for the 11th -12th grade and the other is for the 9th & 10th grade.

In this email I wanted to high light a couple of issues surrounding the event, specifically: expectations, purpose, & evangelism.

The apartment community we'll be working in is called "Lantern Ridge Apartments (click for map)." It is located less than 1.5 miles east of RSBC campus on Roswell Road. The community is about 150 units and students here are in the Marietta School District. It is racially diverse; they have welcomed our church to come into this community with open arms. They have a nice pool area, play ground and community room for activities. It is NOT an upscale apartment like some of the others on Roswell Road. The manager has expressed to me that they have a huge need for someone to come and do something with their teens.

Here are the names of the 11-12 graders and workers who signed up to help on Sunday: John Smallwood, Alex Gilbert, Elijah Anderson, Chad and Lisa Costley, Bobby Murphy, Shelby Rudder, Kimberly Keel, Sharen Alfano, Daniel Leatherwood, Cheryl Crook, & Jake Ellis. We need many more for this event to be a success. These people have to know that WE care about them and their community.

Please contact other students in your class this week and get them to commit, as well as you if you can. We need to have a list well before Sunday so that we can have jobs assigned to people on our team. This project is also open to all members of your family, as my family will be present as well.

EXPECTATIONS: There will be certain people assigned to help with all things food. Everyone else will be there to interact with the residents. We will have class members going door to door (2x2) conducting surveys, finding out "Needs and Wants of Residents." The survey is very important: it lets us know what type of activities to provide for the community in the future, who’s living there, we are able to tell them about the cookout, and they find out that we really care about them. With 150 units and at least 7 teams that is about 20 surveys per group (assuming everyone is at home and participates). This is a very easy task.

PURPOSE: A one afternoon event (2 hours), so that we can find out needs and wants of residents, in order to provide various activities in the future with hopes of sharing Christ and seeing salvations. This event is an investment. As well we will have information about ministries that RSBC provides. We are their community church.

EVANGELISM: A concern of mine with all SPLASH events is that they become social gospel events. I do not want this to happen. All of us need to be intentional about leading conversations in exploring the spiritual situations of the people we are loving on. We will have gospels of John (English & Spanish) to give to people when we do the survey and have them at the cookout.

Hopefully I have presented this information in a clear manner. Feel free to contact me (678-629-0045) with any questions you may have about THIS Sunday –SPLASH Lantern Ridge.

I look forward to hearing from you after you’re able to get more of your students to sign up for this event. There are so many lives that will be changed as the Holy Spirit moves in this neighborhood and in the lives of us and our students.
